Wahlverwandtschaft

About this activity.

You have consanquinity and you have self chosen kinship or Wahlverwandstschaft. On this concept Mirjam Veldhuis made an exhibition with six fellow artists,with whom she feels, sometimes for long, sometimes more recent, connected.
In the entire Pictura building you can enjoy these kinships, almost literally, sometimes more freer and intuitive to understand. The seven female artists use a wide variety of disciplines and techniques. 
There are pictures, movies, graphic, installations and sculptures made of textile of ceramics, paintings, drawings and costumes 'wearables'.

The chosen kinship is shown via diverse themes. With six of them there is a hang to still life and nature, food is rarely far away, women's world of housekeeping and the accent on the making the house presentable is being roasted.
At least three of them have an above average to portray vases and pots, both functionally or stripped off from their function and just shown as a spatial concept,or as a metaphore of
the body.
Traumas sworn, sometimes by showing the total emptiness, the afterimage of a forest walk, the imbalance or little imperfections in sculptures, sometimes by using props, who create an absurd and inconvenient situation.

Participating artists are: Udona Boerema, Sian Bonnell, Alida Everts, Mella Jaarsma, Jet van Oosten, Mirjam Veldhuis and Merel Wendt.

Pictura.

Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
