About this activity.
Waterwerk ('Water work') is not just a chosen title, water is the source of life and essential for the survival of life on our planet. In this exhibition, Marjolein van Haasteren and Jantien de Boer each sketch their own image of their relationship with water. Where Van Haasteren discusses the issues surrounding water, De Boer emphasizes the relationship between man and water. What both have in common in this expo is that they pay tribute to water.
For years, water has been a recurring subject in the work of Marjolein van Haasteren (1967; KABK The Hague). The water flows and ripples and the dynamics of water is a rewarding subject for her to translate into paintings. In the series 'Something In The Water' she spoke with people for whom water is part of their daily lives (for work, recreation or science). The conversations have been translated into her paintings, the personal statements have been transformed into a work of art, as it were. The result is not so much an accurate representation or a current state of affairs, but more a call for attention to this magnificent element.
Jantien de Boer (1984, KABK Groningen) merges reality and fantasy in her waterworks. In the paintings shown, people and nature enter into a relationship, for example she investigates the movement of models under water. The silence, the tranquility, the weightlessness and also the resistance that the water evokes. Like modern water nymphs, the "water ladies" wade, float and sink through carefully composed underwater worlds. Sometimes the depth is fathomlessly dark, other times overgrown with colorful aquatic plants. The paint also flows and moves, just like the water it never stands still. The dynamics of the test are leading.
