Exhibition "VRIJ?" by Groninger Kunstkring de Ploeg in Museum Borg Verhildersum.

From 1 April 2025 to 1 November 2025, Groninger Kunstkring De Ploeg will exhibit in Museum Borg Verhildersum in Leens with the exhibition "FREE?", an exhibition about the meaning of Freedom in the context of the national 80 years of freedom.

Freedom seems self-evident, but is it? The exhibition 'FREE?' brings together artists who explore this question. What does freedom mean in a world full of borders, rules and invisible frameworks? Is freedom a right, a feeling, an illusion?

The 15 participating artists are Aly van der Wal, Reinier van den Berg, Anne van Twillert, Lydia Jonkman, Arien de Groot, Josefien Alkema, Marjan Cornelius, Dik Breunis, Marjan Beuker Geert Schreuder, Marloes Buigel Boering, Ati van Twillert and Mary Velthoen, Bé Kracht, Janny van der Woude approach the theme in different ways. Some are looking for freedom in colour and form, others confront the viewer with limitations and struggle. There is work on display that celebrates personal freedom, but also art that exposes its vulnerability. The title 'FREE?' contains a question mark for a reason. The exhibition invites reflection. Art is a powerful tool to ask this question.' FREE?' is not an unambiguous answer, but a layered dialogue. An invitation to pause, feel and perhaps even redefine what freedom means to us.

There is also an ode to Hendrik Werkman, as a Ploeger he was active with his experimental printing press and template techniques. Ploegers were inspired by his work and made some prints on Werkman's working method.

Groninger kunstkring De Ploeg.

Groninger kunstkring De Ploeg bestaat uit 21 kunstenaars. Gezamelijk vormen ze een platform en organiseren ze exposities. In 2024 hebben zij een vaste plek in de Watertoren West, maar ook zijn er exposties te zien in o.a. het Museum Thijnhof en in 2025 in Museum borg Verhildersum.
