About this activity.
Liesbeth Annokkee's art is expressive and penetrating. She has a clear visual language of her own in which compassion, melancholy but also zest for life resonate. Her work is unmistakably Annokkee.
This exhibition THE HUMAN IN ITSELF forms a rich tapestry of emotions and reflections expressed in characters who look and are looked at. Perhaps it is as Kant said: we cannot essentially know the Thing in itself - in this case the Human in itself. They are our own perceptions, our creations.
Who are these depicted figures who observe and what do they experience? We look at them and what does that do to us?
Are these images personifications of the feelings that this time evokes? Do they still have the real pure sensations that often seem numbed in us? Everything still comes in unfiltered. Totally receptive to what is outside.
Longing for anonymity. Being able to forget yourself. We look in a mirror.
Liesbeth Annokkee is a writer and visual artist. She studied Art and Art Policy at the University of Groningen.
She published three novels: Nachtplantsoen, Het theater van Job and Plagiaat van een Wonder.
As a visual artist she participated three times in the exhibition De Rijke Buit of Forum Groningen.
