About this activity.

A retrospective exhibition by the Groningen photographer Karel Zwaneveld.

Karel was recognizable was recognizable from thousands, with his straight, gray hair and his boyish grin. In April there will be a retrospective exhibition of his work in Photo Gallery Lichtzone.

Karel Zwaneveld learned the trade from his uncle in Bedum, who made wedding reports. Later he went to the Photography School in The Hague. He ended up in photojournalism via the Drents-Groningse Pers. He was a versatile photographer who knew his way around both theater and sports. For years he took photos for, among others, the predecessor of the Dagblad van het Noorden, but also for the ANP and for national and regional newspapers. He photographed football matches, motorcycle races and skating tournaments, including the Winter Olympics. In 1976 he won the Silver Camera with his photo of the outcome of the Moluccan occupation of the ‘Provinciehuis’ in Assen.

In August 2019, Karel Zwaneveld retired as photographer. He passed away on July 10, 2021.
