From August 1st to 31st, 2025, Rittiner & Gomez, an artist duo from Switzerland, will exhibit a watercolor painting, ‘Thank you for the postcard’, at the window gallery ‘De Prachtvink’ near the Vinkhuizen shopping center, Platinalaan 505a, 9743 GZ Groningen.
‘Thank you for the postcard’ is an aquarel in black paint on cardboard, measuring 21 x 15 cm. The artist has drawn a frame freehand. Within the frame, which is not closed, floats an irregular oval. Twenty-four human figures are grouped in a circle around the edge of the oval. Some of the figures are closer together, others are further apart. All have one or two arms raised. Some balance on one leg, others lean on each other. Simple brushstrokes express enthusiasm and connection. The artist leaves a great deal of white space. The oval seems to float alone in a vast space. Something that seems to represent our own earth: a stone ball in a vast void, where we only have each other. The artist feels connected through mail art. Window Gallery De Prachtvink sent postal art to Switzerland and received this card in return. The title can be interpreted as a simple thank-you card, but the watercolor image takes on a deeper meaning and immediately gives expression to the open-ended framework: connection is an open process that may always continue.
Rittiner & Gomez is an artist duo from Switzerland, established (born) in 1960. The duo creates sculptures, drawings, and mail art. A special project is an ongoing series of aquarels on the fantasy island of Isla Volante somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Rittiner & Gomez is a member of the Swiss Urban Sketchers and also creates graphic novels. The duo's work has been exhibited worldwide. The couple also regularly organizes mail art calls.
The window gallery is an exhibition space that can only be viewed from the outside, but it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The gallery is illuminated until 11:00 PM.
Each month, a new artwork by a different artist is exhibited.
