Lisette Stuifzand (born 1966, Leiden) studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Since graduating, she has lived and worked in this city, where her studio is located in the artists’ building Kunstgreep 95.

The subjects that inspire her are often found along the way or close to home. They are typically everyday objects, spaces, or structures – places without a distinct identity. What captures her attention is not the object itself, but the details: reflections, shadows, unexpected light, or an unusual perspective. In those moments, an image takes shape in her imagination, detaching itself from reality – like a still from a film.

In her paintings, Lisette plays with lines, planes, and layers. Her images are carefully constructed, with reflections, shadows, and textures merging together. This blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, between reality and perception. The result is a new visual reality in which seemingly impossible constructions come to life. Though people are absent from her work, their presence is subtly felt, contributing to the tranquil, otherworldly atmosphere of her paintings.

Lisette works in series, each built around a central theme. She begins by taking photographs and making sketches on location. Back in her studio, she develops these into paintings, layer by layer, using acrylic paint.

At Galerie Noord, a selection from four of her series will be on view: Trains, Parking, Home, and Greenhouse – each offering an unexpected perspective on the everyday.

Galerie Noord is een expositieruimte in hartje Groningen. Vierwekelijks bieden we kunstenaars uit het Noorden de mogelijkheid recent werk te tonen, solo of in kleine groepen. Galerie Noord richt zich op autonoom, experimenteel en onderzoekend werk in vrijwel alle disciplines. We willen bezoekers verrassen door tentoonstellingen te bieden met een wisselend karakter. 
 
Galerie Noord wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In 1997 werd de galerie opgericht als kunstenaarsinitiatief.
