Soon in Tschumi Pavilion: ‘And so on and so on’ | Jeroen Jongeleen

Tschumipaviloen (Kunstpunt)
1 April 2026 to 12 June 2026

About this activity.

The opening of the work And so on and so on by artist Jeroen Jongeleen will take place at the Tschumi Pavilion on Wednesday 1 April at 4.00 p.m. The unveiling also marks the launch of Hellend Vlak (Slippery slope), a new project by Kunstpunt, in which we invite artists to respond to current social developments. The Tschumi Pavilion, itself an inclined plane, serves as the tilted stage for this project.

And so on and so on
Jeroen Jongeleen is known for his work in which he collects comments, remarks and texts from internet forums and displays them in public spaces. With And so on and so on, he takes it a step further: he asked various language models (AI text programmes such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT) to generate protest slogans, inspired by the wildly popular philosopher Slavoj Žižek, and then chalked these onto the exterior of the Tschumi Pavilion in his characteristic handwriting. His style is reminiscent of handmade protest signs and evokes associations with demonstrations and activist imagery. The statements suggest strength and resistance and evoke a sense of activism against ‘the system’, but do they ultimately offer any real guidance or a concrete solution?

Inside the pavilion, Jongeleen has built a cardboard village modelled on military training grounds, such as those found in Groningen, for example at Maarhuizen. Images of these training grounds are displayed on the screens. Jongeleen aims to draw attention to what he sees as the almost unnoticed militarisation of our society, which many regard as necessary to uphold our democracy.

With this work, Jongeleen aims, in his own words, “to pry open a mental door for residents and passers-by — an opening through which dormant frustration can flow out and express itself as rebellion, resistance and, at the very least, a collective alertness.”

About Jeroen Jongeleen
For Jeroen Jongeleen (Apeldoorn, 1967), also known by his pseudonym Influenza, art represents freedom of movement, thought and expression. His work is characterised by interventions and performances, often in the city, through which he offers, among other things, a critical perspective on how we interact with public space. With his art, he does not aim to provide ready-made answers, but rather to stimulate thought.

His work has previously been exhibited at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York and during the Biennial of Art in Public Space in Christchurch (New Zealand). And so on and so on is Jongeleen’s first work in Groningen. From 1 April to 12 June 2026, it will be visible day and night in the Tschumi Pavilion.
