Slingerpaden

About this activity.

Abe Kuipers and Hendrik de Vries were two Groningen artist from different generations, who admired each other’s work. They moved in the circles of De Ploeg, yet at the same time their surrealist and Dadaist work made them different.

From their first collaboration on the illustrated poetry collection Slingerpaden, they followed each other’s careers in the worlds of art and literature. The poet and critic De Vries (1896–1989) wrote appreciatively in the newspaper about Kuipers’ (1918–2016) exhibitions. Kuipers paid tribute to the poet in his visual art.

The exhibition Slingerpaden, features works from the collections of the Stichting Kunst Behoud Groningen, the Groninger Museum, the Stichting De Ploeg and others. The selection illustrates the paths the artists took and allows visitors to (re)discover their surprising connection.
