With De Ploeg in the silence

Museum Klooster Ter Apel
28 April 2024 to 15 September 2024

About this activity.

Groningen art circle De Ploeg exhibits from 28 April 2024 to 15 September 2024 in Museum
Ter Apel Monastery with the exhibition:

"With De Ploeg in the Silence"

This atmospheric museum, where silence has played such an important role in history, has long had a connection with De Ploeg, because in addition to work by former Ploeg member Henk Helmantel and current Ploeg member Geert Schreuder, there are stained glass windows by Johan Dijkstra to admire.

De Ploeg artists
The following current Ploeg artists will exhibit work in Museum Klooster Ter Apel: Aly van der Wal, Reinier van den Berg, Lydia Jonkman, Arien de Groot, Josefien Alkema, Marjan Cornelius, Dik Breunis, Silvia Benniks, Geert Schreuder, Annelies Gommer, Marloes Buigel Boering and Mary Velthoen.

Silence
De Ploeg artists take you to the here and now with the theme 'Silence'. Silence can be experienced in many ways. What does that mean for the artist? Does he or she work in silence, is silence tangible, can he or she be described with words? Is it possible that a certain silence is needed to make a painting? How do you depict silence? And what does it mean for the viewer? Can you experience silence by looking at a painting? And does it actually have to be quiet in a museum room? Are there any works in the exhibition that the visitor associates with sound?

You can experience the silence in the exhibition very directly by sitting in Josefien Alkema's 'silence hut'. It is a cabin that does not allow WIFI to pass through. Undisturbed by mobile phones, pings from emails and apps, you can sit down for a moment. You can, as it were, enter your own courtyard garden, connect with your inner world. What comes to mind when you are quiet for a moment? Of course, it is questionable whether you really feel still, but you can also observe that movement when you are on your own in silence
can fine-tune.

Guest exhibitors

De Ploeg has asked two guest exhibitors to contribute to 'Met De Ploeg in de stilte'. As a painter, Maarten Dalstra will depict his vision of silence in his paintings, Renée Luth will be
exhibit her photos and recite a poem during the opening. With silence as a source of inspiration, this is a very varied exhibition.
