Treasures in Drenthe – Museum of Paper-Cutting Art

Museum van Papierknipkunst
1 October 2026 to 20 March 2027

About this activity.

On October 1st, an exhibition opened at the Museum of Paper-Cutting Art featuring work by  TiEnkE Zijlstra, teodora ionescu, Pauline Kick, Monique Temmen, Suzanne Hartmans and Ina Fekken, displayed alongside the museum's permanent collection and the traditional cutting table.

TiEnkE created her work during a four-day residency at the museum, while the other artists were selected through an open call.

Teodora Ionescu presents Het dynamisch spoor ('The Dynamic Trail'). Her suspended paper installation amplifies the sounds of cutting and snipping, while a large, paper root-like form descends from the ceiling.

Pauline Kick has contributed several fragile wall pieces to the exhibition. Made from dried plants and inks, these works showcase a different form of cut-out art.

Monique Temmen displays four pieces from her Error series, which originated from cutting and stenciling techniques similar to those used in street art.

Suzanne Hartmans combines cut and folded circles to create abstract artworks.

Ina Fekken is undertaking a collaborative project with the museum's paper-cutting artists. She explores the connection and collaboration between modern digital laser-cutting technology and the analog, physical act of paper-cutting art.

One or more paper-cutting artworks from the museum serve as the starting point. She transforms these into her own interpretations via computer-generated drawings. These drawings are then used to create laser engravings on paper and/or to cut specific sections out of the chosen paper using a laser cutter. For her work, she envisions a combination of hand-cutting and “modern” laser-cutting techniques. Examples include paper featuring a laser engraving (or partial laser cut) that is subsequently further cut by hand. These works will be on display starting December 1st; until then, her pleureuses  will be on view.
