About this activity.
From Saturday 13 November to Sunday 20 February, the exhibition 'MUDDY PINK DINOSAUR' by the Flemish artist Sarah Carlier (Izegem, 1981) can be seen in the Noorderlicht Studio. In her photos and video installations she explores the role of art in everyday life. What makes something art? And what does it benefit society?
Last spring, Carlier was the first artist in residence at the Noorderlicht Studio. From there she made the city her studio; there she collected objects and stories, intervened in public space, approached Groningers who were creative themselves and asked them to lend their work to her. Carlier's criterion was that these works of art were 'made from an intrinsic need to create, and not from a desired artistry'.
It is precisely the flexible attitude that underlies creativity – breaking free from one's own ideas, being able to see everyday things in a new light – that is what makes Carlier's craftsmanship all about. All her 'studies', art finds and the new work she has created that is inspired by all this, come together as a playful mix in the exhibition 'MUDDY PINK DINOSAUR'. Carlier challenges the viewer to look differently; to his/her immediate environment, to the world and to art.

Onze tentoonstellingen zijn wereldwijd te zien geweest, in onder andere de Verenigde Staten, Syrië, Australië en Indonesië. Door de eigenzinnige, scherpe programmering en bijzondere uitgaven heeft Noorderlicht internationaal een reputatie opgebouwd als een instelling die engagement weet te koppelen aan visuele schoonheid. Noorderlicht-producties zijn verbeeldingsvol en meeslepend, enthousiast en kritisch, persoonlijk en geëngageerd.
