After his last solo exhibition in the Groninger Museum and the CBK Emmen, Ruud Venekamp (1957) presents his recent work in Pictura.
His paintings form a world to experience wordlessly.
As humans, we like to explain everything in detail. However, the visual content of Venekamp's work remains fairly far from reality. He paints shapes, colors and atmosphere. These come together in layered and balanced compositions, which are always under tension: if we look away for a moment, the whole could just collapse.
Venekamp makes his paintings with great attention, curiosity and precision. The shapes on the canvas are organic in nature, but do not represent anything else; they are presentations themselves. Together with the color scheme, they stimulate the imagination and invite an experience – perhaps precisely because we can hardly explain them.
Pictura.
Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
