Request for silence

Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura
26 October 2025 to 30 November 2025

About this activity.

Request for silence investigates the role of silence in our society, or the lack of it. What is silence? What is the surplus value of silence? What is the flipside?
Did silence in the past mean anything else? Can you ask for silence?
Is silence a right? And how are artists related to this? Can you give a visual expression to silence?
With the exhibition Request for silence fourteen visual artists think about these questions, together with the audience and other artists like musicians and poets.

What is understood by silence, is very personal and coloured by the zeitgeist.
In the past roads were not filled with cars and engines and there weren’t mobile callers and Tiktokkers on the train, to mention something.
To highlight the personal and historical aspect of silence, for the Request for silence artists from very different disciplines and ages were collected. To look for silence with you.

The exhibition contains new work from the following artists:: Margreet Boonstra, Marianne Brouwer, Peter Durieux, Miriam Knibbeler, Christiaan Kuitwaard, Hessel Miedema, Jet van Oosten, Leonard Witte, Alida Everts, Janke Klompmaker, Nattesokken, Mijke Buskes, Karel Buskes en Annemiek Vos.

Next to the exhibition there is an additional programme with a lecture, music, poetry and meditation. Check our website for updates.

Pictura.
