OFF HOOK
22 May 2026 to 3 July 2026

About this activity.

Opening: Friday, May 22, 2026, 5:00 p.m.                                                                                                              The opening will be hosted by Onno Zijlstra (philosopher).

Visual artist Paul van Dijk was born in Utrecht (1947) and lives and works in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch, he developed a diverse body of work as a sculptor, photographer, painter, collagist, and environmental artist, and also served as a teacher.

His work is characterized by a subtle, poetic approach in which the mystery of inspiration takes pride of place. Time and again, he seeks out the discipline, the material, and the language that can make not only the work but also the search itself visible.

Without an emphasis on effect or spectacle, Paul van Dijk creates work that is subtly and carefully constructed. His sculptures, paintings, collages, and photography seem to emerge from attention and stillness. In this way, he manages to give clear form to the indefinable.

During the opening on May 22 at 5:00 p.m., philosopher Onno Zijlstra will touch on these themes.

Onno Zijlstra has written several books in the fields of philosophy and aesthetics. Earlier this month, his book Unprecedentedly Recognizable: On the Meaning of Art (ArtEZPress) was published, addressing questions such as: “Does art make us see things differently?”, “Is art the essence of freedom?”, “Does art make us aware of what we do not see?”, and “Does art shed light on what is not clear to our minds?”

We sincerely hope to see you all at the opening!
