About this activity.

From September 20 to November 15, you can discover Surroundings, an art trail featuring five temporary artworks scattered across the Het Hogeland region. In 2026, the central theme is Believing—or, in the local Groningen dialect, Over Le(u)ven.

Five artists engaged in conversations with Het Hogeland residents and immersed themselves in the stories that thrive here. These stories are reflected in the artworks. Each artist interprets the theme of Believing in their own unique way—ranging from religion, spirituality, and rituals to the things that give people hope, direction, or a sense of grounding.

The artworks are located at various sites throughout Het Hogeland, set in the open landscape and inside a small church. The art trail is free to access and open daily from sunrise to sunset.
