Otto Krol - Facades, roofs, and skies
About this activity.
For the third time since 2020, Peter ter Braak is exhibiting new works by Otto Krol (Groningen, 1949), who trained as an art teacher at Academie Minerva between 1970 and 1975. Following the cityscapes featured in his late-2023 exhibition, Otto Krol once again presents architectural subjects; however, these images appear less hermetic, feeling more dynamic and open. We see apartment building facades again, but now rendered with diagonals or viewed frontally—yet zoomed in—with deeply recessed windows, creating an image that is more abstract yet less closed off. Rear elevations and solid planes turn towards the viewer, becoming more accessible in the process. It is fascinating to trace his ten-year quest to capture the enthusiasm and sense of wonder he experiences while walking through a city like Groningen. The facades associated with the *Nieuwe Bouwen* (Modernist) movement, in particular, seem to spark his enthusiasm.
Opening hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m.
