'Noordelijke Aquarellisten' in K38
About this activity.
The exhibition 'Northern Watercolourists' was opened on Saturday 12 April at 3:30 pm by Johan Meeske, Riny Bus and Jan van Loon, artists.
In 1981, the group ‘Noordelijke Aquarellisten’ was founded in the Groningen café De Beurs.
Since its foundation, they have been committed to promoting the watercolour.
The Noordelijke Aquarellisten consist of the Groningen artists;
Riny Bus, Dorry van de Winkel, Jan van Loon, Jan Velthuis, Robin d’Arcy Shillcock and Johan Meeske.
The interaction between paper, water and paint gives the watercolour a painterly quality that is unique. In their work, the Noordelijke Aquarellisten show that watercolour is a beautiful painting medium.
The subjects of the ‘Noordelijkeen’ are derived from observation, they give a varied image, both in subject and technique. The style is varied: from figurative to almost abstract. Landscapes, harbour views and still lifes are depicted both subdued impressionistically and monumentally expressionistically.
The association has existed since the early eighties and was founded because they had, and still have, a special preference for this fascinating but difficult technique. Their goal is to keep this technique alive and to promote it as an art form.
On view from Saturday 12 April to Sunday 4 May 2025.
