natural relations
From 19 September through 17 October 2026, Groningen will be dedicated to natural relations, an exhibition and public programme centred on the work and ideas of visual artist herman de vries, who turned 95 this year. Art, nature, botanical knowledge and local communities come together in a programme that explores the relationship between humans, plants and their environment. The manifestation takes place at ARTisBOOK and Block C, in the former ice warehouse in Groningen, and extends to various locations throughout the city.
herman de vries sees the world as one indivisible whole. In his work, he challenges boundaries and hierarchies between humans and nature, science and intuition, culture and environment. His extensive research project natural relations forms the conceptual starting point for the manifestation.
ARTisBOOK : drugs
At ARTisBOOK, we showcase herman's interest in drugs, featuring books from his extensive drugs library alongside drug-related objects he has collected. Drug-related works are displayed on the walls.

Block C
For Block C, herman de vries created a floor sculpture made of hop cones, the hops of this were grown by residents of Groningen. In the front space, photographs, notes and audio fragments tell the story of this community project.

Kunstruimte Galerie Block C.
Initiatiefnemers Marinus Augustijn en Agnes Scholte organiseren elk jaar 5 solo-exposities. Liefde en enthousiasme voor het werk vormen de belangrijkste selectiecriteria. Elke expositie wordt begeleid door een poster ontworpen en uitgevoerd door Hansje van Halem of Michiel Schuurman. De kunstruimte is gevestigd in het centrum van Groningen in een mooie, stille ruimte aan de achterzijde van een oud ijspakhuis.
