The groundbreaking book ‘Cruising Utopia: The Then and There of Queer Futurity’ by José Esteban Muñoz will form the basis for this mini-symposium on queer art and futurity. Queer art historian Anne van Lierop (they/them), one of the founders of queer art platform The Pink Cube, will give insights into Muñoz’ ideas and the way queer futures and utopias have been considered in queer art history. After this there will be an artist’s talk by Sarjon Azouz (they/them), telling you about their work and their own speculations on queer futurity. We hope to provide an afternoon of open dialogue, daydreaming out loud and radical speculation, and we warmly invite you to participate in the discussion!

This symposium is part of the program for Queer Pride Groningen, May 22nd until June 4th 2023.
