Ménage à Trois – Jeroen Duijf, Naoki Fuku, Rob Strick

galerie with tsjalling:
21 May 2022 to 11 June 2022

About this activity.

The third edition of the traveling gallery concept Ménage à Trois will take place in the second quarter of 2022. The concept was conceived in 2018 by three young ambitious galleries from different parts of the country to introduce their artists to a larger audience. The starting point is working together in a thematic traveling exhibition, with work by an artist from each participating gallery, who will visit all three galleries in succession. Participants of the first hour SinArts Gallery from The Hague and galerie with tsjalling: from Groningen have joined forces this year with Galerie Nasty Alice from Eindhoven. The work of the three artists in the exhibition, Naoki Fuku, Rob Strick and Jeroen Duijf, is characterized by the fact that the works are narrative, set in their own world, often with a wink and often expressive in nature. Ménage à Trois 2022 kicks off on April 24 in Eindhoven and then travels to Groningen to finish in The Hague in July.

Jeroen Duijf (1988) lives and works in 's-Hertogenbosch. In his paintings Duijf depicts figures that represent character traits of himself, in what appears to be a fantasy world. A combination of explorer and pirate, he discovers the extremes of the art world in his own way. Duijf is averse to traditions and fashions, even if he knows them well. The result are heroic and at the same time humorous paintings.

The Japanese artist Naoki Fuku is self-taught. His work in the series 'Study of the Human Mind' is characterized by the raw energy that Naoki sometimes literally transfers in his works by dripping, splashing and beating ink. Both on his large canvases and large sheets of paper, Naoki expresses himself with bold strokes and emotional lines, fueled by his own state of mind. In the small works, which Naoki has created especially for this exhibition, he sticks to his familiar black ink, pastel and pen techniques, but we find satire and humor in works that make the viewer doubt associations that we normally find obvious.

In his works on paper, the Groningen artist Rob Strick (1981) uses a suggestive visual language that is autonomous as well as illustrative and graphic in character. This creates works with a story that contains elements from events and circumstances that occur in daily life. Bright colors and austere shapes form the basis of the composition of the image. They sometimes arise spontaneously during work, but are also often thought out. There is always a parallel between form and content of the work. The most recent works in this exhibition are a bit surreal and are reminiscent of strange dreams.
