Martin Tissing | Klaske Bootsma
About this activity.
De Kunsthof presents the third duo exhibition featuring work by two generations of northern artists.
Martin Tissing (1936-2018)
Martin was a painter known for his lyrical and colorful abstract art. He studied at Academy Minerva and later in Warsaw, after which he settled in Groningen. Martin began as a sculptor but eventually chose painting, capturing moments and emotions in hushed compositions. He taught at various schools and was active in artist groups such as Group 57. Martin's later work is characterized by a delicate use of color and a poetic atmosphere. His work is included in collections of the Groninger Museum and Museum Belvédère, among others.
Klaske Bootsma (1995)
"My painting process begins with an intuitive arrangement of materials - pieces of canvas, old paintings and wooden planks - without a predetermined plan. I react to thoughts, impressions and questions that arise in me, alternating between doing and thinking, impulse and reflection. My work consists of abstract forms, planes of color, lines, signs and recognizable elements such as letters, eyes and arrows. The process itself is at the core of my work; choices, doubt and time give meaning. I strive for clear images in which the traces of the creative process remain visible, so that the work is not just an end result, but a snapshot in a continuous investigation.'
Klaske graduated from Academy Minerva and the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen
