Marit Westerhuis: MEGALITH

About this activity.

In her large solo presentation MEGALITH, Marit Westerhuis questions the relationship between man, myth and nature. A large post-apocalyptic landscape will dominate the Coop Himmelb(l)au pavilion. How do people give meaning to the world when they are threatened with extinction? A question that is more topical than ever in the light of the climate crisis. Westerhuis envisions a world in which we return to age-old rituals and seek comfort in mythological stories.

The MEGALITH exhibition is the culmination of the third edition of Young Grunn Artist, set up by NP3 in collaboration with the Groninger Museum. With this talent development trajectory, the museum and NP3 offer a platform for up-and-coming Groningen talent.

Mede door een gift van 25 miljoen gulden van de Nederlandse Gasunie kon het Groninger Museum gerealiseerd worden. In 1994 werd het museum geopend door koningin Beatrix. Het museumgebouw geldt als één van de hoogtepunten van het postmodernisme. De uitgangspunten van de architect Mendini waren: geen hiërarchie in de kunstdisciplines, overvloedig gebruik van decoraties en samenwerken met gastontwerpers. Hierdoor ontstond een divers samenspel van ruimtes. In deze ruimtes wordt aandacht besteed aan vier uiteenlopende collecties: archeologie en geschiedenis van Groningen, kunstnijverheid, oude beeldende kunst en hedendaagse kunst.
