Marian Tappel - Trash works and action paintings

Kunsthandel Peter ter Braak
6 September 2026 to 27 September 2026

About this activity.

Marian Tappel (1960) graduated from the Minerva Academy in Groningen in 2001.

Her work operates at the intersection of painting, printmaking, assemblage, and installation. For her, material is not merely a medium but a full-fledged bearer of meaning. Through an open and experimental working process, she explores the tension between order and chance, where intuition, material exploration, and imagination constantly influence one another.

Working in series allows a subject to unfold gradually. Each project demands its own form and technique, resulting in an oeuvre characterized by great diversity—yet with one constant: making visible a reality that lies beyond what is immediately perceptible.

Her recent series, Trash-Works, focuses on the transformation of plastic waste. Inspired by nature’s capacity for self-renewal, Marian envisions a world in which discarded material acquires a new organic identity. The series offers a timely reflection on impermanence, sustainability, and the continuous cycle of change.

At the exhibition at Peter ter Braak, Trash-Works is presented alongside a selection of recent paintings and action paintings.

“Chaos is the word we have invented for an order we do not understand.”
