Marcel Duran - Paintingstrokes for the 17th time!

Kloosterkerk, Thesinge
30 March 2024 to 14 April 2024

About this activity.

Marcel Duran depicts everyday life. Cityscapes, landscapes and portraits (including 14 portraits of professors at the RUG) are the themes with which he has become familiar and which he continues to explore in greater depth. Different every time, because he likes to vary the directions of view that determine his compositions.

Observing on the spot is the basis of his artistic approach to reality, a complex whole from which he creates casual-looking compositions. It may be the atmosphere of a bright winter morning in the midst of the bustling city life, or the French countryside where a summer breeze can be felt, but also the intimacy and tranquility of a woman in a light-drenched interior. With soft strokes and sharp keys he manages to capture meaningful moments in what can be called a summary painting style.

“To capture in paint what I have in front of me, the atmosphere of that one moment, spontaneously and without embellishment, that is the challenge. Keep the momentum going with individual keys and above all don't name everything you see." With the experience of 30 years of painting, Duran says that painting has become an irrepressible necessity of life. "To relate to the world, painting is a necessity. Whether it works or not, I just have to. The occasional euphoria when I succeed, that's what I do it for."

New and previously unseen work can be seen from March 30 to April 14 on Saturday, Sunday and Easter Monday in the Kloosterkerk of Thesinge. This time also with work made on Java and Bali.
