From 1 to 31 March 2023 Jan Zantingh, an artist from Hoogkerk, will exhibit an oil painting on canvas 'Watertoren Dr. C. Hofstede de Grootkade' in window gallery 'De Prachtvink' at shopping center Vinkhuizen, Platinalaan 505a, 9743 GZ Groningen.
Water Tower Dr. C. Hofstede de Grootkade is an oil painting measuring 70 cm (h) x 50 cm (w). The Watertoren West on the Dr. C. Hofstede de Grootkade is a striking building on the Reitdiep and certainly evokes a warm nostalgic feeling for citizens of Groningue on the west side of town, when they see it protruding above the houses from afar. The building from 1912 was designed by J.A. Mulock Houwer. The tower was sold by the water company in 2013. It is now owned by the company Calculus, which is establishing a hotel in it, which will open this year. Jan captured the building on canvas in 2022 as seen from the Wilhelminakade in a finely painted realistic-naive style.
Jan Zantingh is an artist from Hoogkerk. He is self-taught. After visiting an exhibition by Henk Helmantel in 2013, he picked up the palette and started painting with great passion. The subject of his work is almost always cityscapes of our beautiful city of Groningen. Jan: 'There are so many beautiful places that I like to capture as realistic cityscapes in oil paint. I get a lot of ideas through 'google maps' or by searching the city'. In addition to free work, Jan also makes commissioned paintings. The window gallery is an exhibition space that can only be viewed from the outside, but 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The gallery is illuminated until 11:00 PM.
