Off Hook is very pleased to be able to show the work of Jaap Kroneman (Roermond, 1968) in Groningen. How fortunate that there are still recalcitrant artists without wanting to be recalcitrant. For Jaap Kroneman it is not enough to register what is there. He does what he wants and doesn't easily care about anything. His installations, paintings, sculptures and performances contain a trace of serious humour. The suggestion of a sketch of an everyday object becomes a work that is more than finished due to the enormous image power: a wonderful combination of sketch and charm.
According to Kees van Gelder, artist Jaap Kroneman is one of the founders of Flat Real Art: a branch of visual art that takes the observed reality as a starting point, but abstracts it and makes it flat and allows it to remain recognizable. According to his own words, Jaap Kroneman has mainly remained unknown with completely different work. The only constant is the piano, which keeps popping up as a dissonance to prevent the apparent arbitrariness from being interpreted as a programme. Jaap currently lives and works in Brussels.
A new work by the artist is being produced especially for this exhibition at Zeefdruk Atelier Hogeland in Warffum. This is initiated by Off Hook. This limited-edition screen print by Jaap Kroneman will soon be available at Off Hook. The screenprint design led to a series of new paintings that will also be on display for the first time at Off Hook.

OFF HOOK is an artist run space for contemporary art and exhibitions. It’s located at the corner of a former chemistry laboratory in Groningen, the Netherlands.
OFF HOOK is founded by Dutch artist Lydia Wierenga, with the goal to invite artists to “do what they want”.
OFF HOOK will also present screen-prints in limited editions and “a little something on the side”.
