Ellis op ’t Landt created her first textile work, the girl and the alphabet, from the awareness that body and language are the means of expression we must rely on throughout our lives. This was followed by the series of black wall objects Transformative Black, in which she focused on the invisible and mysterious side of nature, her foremost source of inspiration. Out of a desire to use more colour in her work came the monochrome oval wall objects. She continued that line in the more playful series of medallions. Even greater use of colour followed in the series of small, indefinable wall objects entitled Little Things. The woven rectangles under the working title Schutzengel have so far remained monochrome.

For Op ’t Landt, it is all about colour, structure, form and space, without reference to visible reality. Each work speaks as an independent object in its own language. By working in series, she allows a different mental space to emerge in a new form. A wall of 12 x 12 photographs further offers an insight into how she perceives visible reality.

Ellis op ’t Landt studied drawing and painting at the Willem de Kooning Academy, worked for more than twenty years as a set and costume designer and, since 2011, has been creating an autonomous body of work in textiles.

Galerie Noord.

Galerie Noord is een expositieruimte in hartje Groningen. Vierwekelijks bieden we kunstenaars uit het Noorden de mogelijkheid recent werk te tonen, solo of in kleine groepen. Galerie Noord richt zich op autonoom, experimenteel en onderzoekend werk in vrijwel alle disciplines. We willen bezoekers verrassen door tentoonstellingen te bieden met een wisselend karakter. 
 
Galerie Noord wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In 1997 werd de galerie opgericht als kunstenaarsinitiatief.
