Installation by Chiara Tammaro at Noorderzon
About this activity.
Each year, Kunstpunt Groningen and Noorderzon invite a Groningen-based artist to create a new artwork for the Noorderzon Festival. This year, that artist is Chiara Tammaro. Especially for the festival, Chiara has created the work My dog ate my homework. She drew inspiration from childhood memories of common excuses – such as the British “my dog ate my homework” or the Dutch “the bridge was open.”
The installation incorporates all the archetypal visual elements of a bridge, but they are entirely removed from their usual context. The result is an absurd situation. The bridge – a symbol of connection – transforms into something more ambiguous: a metaphor, an obstacle, a question mark.
The artwork plays with perception and expectation. Chiara invites you to pause, observe, and reconsider what you see.

About Chiara Tammaro
Chiara Tammaro grew up in the United Kingdom and has lived in Groningen since 2015. She studied Fine Arts at Academie Minerva and, in 2017, co-founded Moshpit of Creation, an artist-run creative hub with which she is still closely involved. Most recently, they launched a new creative workspace, RESO, in collaboration with the building’s landlord.
Her interactive sculptures explore familiarity and feature objects the audience can relate to, such as household items, furniture, or a bridge. Chiara’s work is deeply influenced by memories of her youth, where workshops, tools, and hands-on creation played a key role. Her work has been exhibited at, among others, Corridor Project Space (Amsterdam), Bierumer School (Bierum), and Convention House (Leeds).
My dog ate my homework was commissioned by Kunstpunt Groningen and Noorderzon and made possible with the support of the Mondriaan Fund. With special thanks to: Tom Dijkstra and Bork Tussenstation.
