About this activity.

Herman Schlooz returns home with his exhibition Home. In his own words: "Groningen, both the city and the province, was a breath of fresh air when I arrived from the south in '74 with all my worldly belongings. My brand-new lover, the study programs, my (now) oldest friends, and eventually my studio on Violenstraat with its litho press and buddies.

Leaving this city in 1990—the place that made me feel reborn—was more than difficult. Never again did I find a network that supported me so well as an artist: studio subsidies, purchase rounds, commissions, and many colleagues.

So now, I am back for a moment where my adventure truly began: at Pictura. The exhibition 'Everyday Vistas' was a milestone for me as a starting artist in 1988. Here, now, is a small retrospective of my work as a printmaker, spread across four rooms, each with its own signature. Enjoy your time at Pictura."

 

Pictura.

Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
