About this activity.

Information about this exhibition:

Henk van Veelen (1949) Innovation is a necessity for me!

Henk has lived in Groningen and the surrounding area for more than 50 years. He inherited his interest in painting from home. In addition to his psychology studies, he attended Minerva's evening course. At Noorderateliers, years later, he once again refreshed the classical curriculum. By phasing out his work as a management consultant, he had more time and painting received more attention. Henk constantly experiments with styles, techniques and subjects. Don't rely too much on routine, but look for the excitement and challenge of the new while painting. Henk paints based on observation, photos and fantasy. The research into the interplay between line, shape and color is leading. An important feature in his work is the tension between figuration and abstraction linked to expressive use of color.

Peter Verboom, is particularly charmed by 'DADA' and 'NEO DADA'
Peter was born in 1954 in Rotterdam and lives and works in Assen.
His quest for childlike spontaneity has never stopped. Like a true 'homo ludens', he uses the flotsam of our mass consumption in his current three-dimensional work and processes it into 'assemblages'. He prefers to use non-traditional art materials, mainly used everyday attributes, 'objects trouvé's'.
He finds places and inspiration in thrift and second-hand stores. His own assemblages are created through intuitive and associative combinations of trivial attributes. This creates a game in which the meaning of the individual attributes in a new mutual relationship and coherence causes alienation. Irrational combinations with a predominantly narrative character.

Jan van der Meulen: Colorful images and paintings with passion, content and a lot of feeling.
Jan was born in 1935 in the Frisian village of Burgum. As a fourteen-year-old boy, Van der Meulen was employed by a graphic company and trained as a stone printer/lithographer. He considers himself a self-taught artist. Van der Meulen developed his own flat printing technique that he called 'steel printing' and for which he would later receive a patent. Steel printing makes it possible to print lithographs without a printing press.
Only at an advanced age and after years of doubt did he dare to call himself an artist. This means that the creative urge is always present. 'I let my brushes loose with acrylic paint. I have also been collecting all kinds of things that others throw away for years and processing them into art objects in all kinds of sizes and shapes. And as always, the result surprises me. 'Deciding that it is finished is, in my opinion, one of the most difficult moments in visual art.' Characteristic is that he works in large format. In the Guinness Book of Records he is listed with Chicken and Egg. This is the largest steel print ever made; 91 by 130 centimeters. This work of art was printed in the Printing Museum in Meppel. The Drents Museum, Kunstplaza John Schurer in Assen, Stichting Nobilis in Fochteloo and Galerie Peter Bax in Sneek are the locations that have many of his works and that regularly like to exhibit, sell or rent them. His Cobra-like art, colorful and in large formats, appeals to many people.
