Watertoren West
2 May 2024 to 30 June 2024

About this activity.

In 2024, De Ploeg will exhibit throughout the year with six changing exhibitions in the beautiful reception lobby of the Water Tower West. No fewer than 11 panels with a royal blue colour can be filled by the work of De Ploeg, whether colourful or not. The space is so large that the spatial work also comes into its own.

The third exhibition of Groninger kunstkring De Ploeg features work by Geert Schreuder, Aly van der Wal and spatial work by guest exhibitor Stepen Beale. The exhibition will be opened by Richard ter Borg on Sunday 12 May from 15.00 to 17.00 hrs. You are most welcome!

Geert Schreuder paints things in acrylic and/or oil paint that catch his eye. These can be landscapes, still lifes or interiors. Sometimes big and dramatic and sometimes small, intimate, things or things that appeal, intrigue, fascinate, amaze or impress him. Some subjects tempt him to fine painting, others to large strokes and sloppy brushstrokes.

He regularly exhibits here and there and opens his studio to visitors every first Sunday of the month in the afternoon. He also works on commission, ; illustrations and portraits etc.

Aly van der Wal looks at the landscape with respect and wonder. The pristineness fascinates her. It is the interaction between water and air, and especially the light, that is the great magician for her. She does not frame the landscape, the performance continues. Aly has developed her own style, including acrylic intaglio printing. And is now working on mixed technology on aluminum. Her studio is in Zoutkamp where you are always welcome (by appointment). She gives painting workshops and makes commissioned work for individuals and companies.

She attended both the Minerva Academy and the Classical Academy. Aly is a member of the Kunstkring De Ploeg, a company that has existed for more than 100 years and has produced many well-known artists. She is also a member of the Dutch Association of Sea Painters.

Stephen Beale grew up in the shadow of London and moved his life to Houwerzijl on the Hoogeland of Groningen.  His creative processes oscillate between making particularly unique cabinets from second-hand materials and sculpting and modeling life-size figurative sculptures in clay, natural stone, concrete and wood, which he often depicts in a humorous way.
