DUOSOLO by Pieter Immenga en Joop Striker
About this activity.
DUOSOLO is a joint exhibition by artists Pieter Immenga and Joop Striker on the upper floor of Pictura. Although they belong to the same generation and share a unique sense of poetry in their work, their artistic styles are distinctly different.
Pieter Immenga (Groningen, 1955) graduated from Minerva Art Academy in 1982. His most recent work are a series of paintings titled ‘BEAM’.His modest painting moves between figuration and abstraction, with recognizable rudimentary motives such as light sources, rural landscapes en symbols of sound. The works have similarities with formal painting as lyrical expressionism. An aversion against the narrative, the epic or the anecdotal results into a poetic, obstinate artwork arising from an immoderate fascination for painting.
Joop Striker (1953, Wolvega)is a multidisciplinary visual artist. He graduated from Academy Minerva in 1981. His artwork is an appealing fragmentary alphabet, a melting pot with existing and new works. Familiarity as a greeting, the people are central, confirm his work to a high degree.
The often delicate sculptures are like sketches in space, in which art, poetry, the art of drawing and painting in spaciousness solidify.
Pictura.
Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
