Workshop Drawing: Working with Ink & Stains, by Jelte van Lente

About this activity.

During this short, one-day workshop at VRIJDAG you will experiment with ink and stains. Inspired by Asian drawing, you will draw lines with a dip pen.

Ink in a fantastic material to work with. You can start with a sheet of paper, a jar of ink and a pen or brush. And the possibilities are endless; from abstract to very precise, from dreamy to playful.

In this workshop you will explore a number of different techniques in a playful way: line drawing with a dip pen, Asian-inspired drawing with a large brush, searching for an image from spots and working from light to dark from a photo. Ultimately, you combine these techniques in a work that suits you!

For workshop teacher Jelte van Lente, drawing was his first love, it is a basis from which his films and animations also arise. He draws inspiration from cartoonists and illustrators from the beginning of the last century, but also traditional Chinese painting, learned at the academy in Hangzou (China), has strongly influenced his work.
