'This is (not) a BOOK'

Kunstencentrum K38
6 September 2025 to 5 October 2025

About this activity.

The Verkuno Exhibition “This is (not) a Book” at K38.

On Friday, September 5 at 8:00 PM, Verkuno opens 'This is (not) a Book.'

During the opening, several artists will speak about the works they are presenting.

Many — and sometimes unexpected — aspects of the phenomenon “book” are interpreted here. Turned inside out or carefully unraveled. For one artist, it is the text; for another, the construction, the inside, or precisely the outside, that sparks the imagination.

What can you expect to see?
With his work Table of Ten, Willem Corsius visualizes his experience of his years in primary school, where blood, sweat, and tears play an important role. In Els Crum’s leporello Coming and Going, everything comes together: graphic techniques, figure drawing, painting, and thoughts transformed into words and poetry.

That publishing the book The Little Lambs independently is no simple task becomes clear in the work journal of Arien de Groot. The depiction of observable reality is one of the starting points for Bert Hemsteede, though never a goal in itself. People and animals (often birds) take center stage in his books, which for the first time have left his studio.

Other participating artists include Willy van der Duyn, Marleen van Engelen, Jannie Hiskes, Thea Hoek, Ida van der Lee, Sonja Leutholff, Lyda Lichtenbeld, Saber Mikael, Dirk Rentmeester, Yvonne Struys, and Peter de Vis.

In collaboration with bookstore Daan Nijman, a children’s bookmark competition will be organized starting September 6.

The exhibition 'This is (not) a Book' can be visited from September 6 through October 5, 2025.
