About this activity.

Grandfather Albert Jan Rouwkema and granddaughter Amke van der Straten are showing their collaboration in wood and painting. The exhibition is titled "Deeply Rooted," referring to their familybond, their shared love for art, and their resilience.

Albert Jan grew up in his grandfather's wagon and furniture workshop in the north of the Netherlands. From a young age, he made all sorts of items out of wood. When he was able to leave school early, he chose to fully focus on wood art. In 2006, he won the silver medal in the professional class at an international woodturning competition in England. In his work, he often combines wood with other materials, creating unique and surprising pieces of art. Check out his work at: www.houtstylist.nl.

Amke grew up in Africa and Aruba. From a young age, she spent a lot of time in her grandmother's studio, where her love for drawing and painting began. That passion has always remained. While she initially worked mostly on a small scale, during the corona period she moved on to large canvases. Her work ranges from realistic paintings and portraits to intuitive abstract compositions. In addition, she writes poems that often connect with her visual art.

Kunstruimte De Smederij is open Thursday through Sunday, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Er vinden maandelijks wisselende exposities plaats.
Ook zijn er regelmatig creatieve workshops en zijn er mogelijkheden voor lezingen, voorstellingen en vergaderen.
