The Connection - De Buitenplaats meets Drents Museum
About this activity.
On 9 October 1996, Museum De Buitenplaats opened its doors: a museum for all forms of figurative art. The idea came from museum founders Jos and Janneke van Groeningen. They had previously converted the adjacent Nijsinghhuis into a home. Five artists painted the walls of their house: Clary Mastenbroek, Wout Muller, Pieter Pander, Matthijs Röling and Olga Wiese. These painters remained involved with the couple for many years, and as such with Museum De Buitenplaats.
In The Connection, 'The Five' come together again under one roof. Masterpieces from Museum De Buitenplaats make a connection with the collection of the Drents Museum. The exhibition pays tribute to the museum's figurative origins and looks ahead to what is to come. This autumn, the Drents Museum De Buitenplaats, a museum for Art Nouveau, will open.
The striking museum building, the flowering garden and the centuries-old village church of Eelde have been captured by various artists. A selection of these works can be seen on the top floor. Together they pay tribute to Museum De Buitenplaats.

Museum De Buitenplaats is er voor iedereen: van bezoekers met liefde voor kunst, tuinen, muziek, theater en literatuur tot liefhebbers van historische en moderne architectuur. Collectie en tuin vertegenwoordigen gezamenlijk Museum De Buitenplaats. Figuratie vormt de kern van de collectie. Museum De Buitenplaats streeft naar een samenhang in programmering die drie aandachtspunten van het complex weergeeft: (1) de figuratieve kunst in de meest brede zin van het woord, (2) de tuin in al haar seizoenen in combinatie met het Nijsinghhuis, (3) de podiumkunsten en literatuur. Museum De Buitenplaats wil door zijn vier seizoenenprogrammering jong en oud bewust maken van de rol van kunst, natuur en architectuur in de samenleving en ze inspireren tot vrij en autonoom denken.
