De Kunsthof present an duo exhibition of Jochem Hamstra and Dolf Verlinden

De Kunsthof
17 October 2026 to 13 December 2026

About this activity.

Jochem Hamstra (Heerenveen, 1962)

Jochem’s painting moves between figuration and abstraction; it is always grounded in visual perception and often features disruptive interventions that disturb the representation. Jochem’s fascination with human impulses, life and death converge in his multi-layered work, which is devoid of mannerism, ostentation or superficiality. In this way, he reflects on himself and the world around him – mercilessly raw and direct.

Speaking about his INCARNATIE series, Jochem says: ‘My paintings are not so much about the literal depiction of an event, but more about the intensity of the experience.’

Jochem Hamstra graduated from the Vredeman de Vries Academy in Leeuwarden in 1991. He lives and works in Groningen.

Dolf Verlinden (Schiedam, 1960)

On first encountering Dolf’s work, we see basic, geometry-based forms captured in seemingly simple compositions. With these formal characteristics, Dolf’s paintings, prints and objects undeniably belong to the realm of abstract, non-figurative art. But nothing is what it seems. The starting points for his works are often concrete objects that he has found himself on the street. Through artistic manipulation, these are transformed into a new reality that is entirely his own. Dolf’s works, which often consist of several parts, can be viewed and understood both individually and in relation to one another.

Dolf Verlinden graduated from the Minerva Academy in Groningen in 1984. He lives and works in Groningen.
