De Best Verzorgde Boeken 2022 / The Best Dutch Book Designs 2022

Het Kasteel / Grid Grafisch Museum
22 February 2024 to 14 April 2024

About this activity.

The Best Dutch Books Foundation celebrates the best that the graphic sector produces: 33 books that have been created with heart and soul. Every year a professional jury selects books of the highest quality in the field of design, lithography and printing and binding. These excellent books are a combination of the expertise, creativity and perseverance of publishers, designers, printers and binders.

262 books have been submitted for The Best Books of 2022. The selection of the professional jury includes a variety of books: from prose, poetry and graphic novels to children's, art and photo books. From sleek design to playful form experiment.

The selected books can be admired every year in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and for the past two years also at GRID Grafisch Museum Groningen.

In addition to a professional jury, a student jury has been established since 2016. Five Design students from Dutch art academies and colleges made their own choice, which includes more daring and experimental publications. These books can also be seen here.

How do these juries make a selection? Is there one universal standard for all these works? Absolutely not! Every year, fresh, independent juries look at all the new nominees from the past twelve months and come up with their own answer. An answer that you can wholeheartedly agree or disagree with.

The international jury of Best Book Design from all over the World awards the Dutch selection a Bronze Medal and an Honorable Mention.

  • The Bronze Medal goes to Architectures of Dismantling and Restructuring, published by Lars Müller Publishers; editor-in-chief: Kirsten Marie Raahuage et al.; design: Joost Grootens, Dimitri Jeannottat, Philipp Doringer, Julie da Silva (Amsterdam); production: Marjeta Morinc (lithography), Wilco Art Books
  • The Honorable Mention goes to Capturing Nature, published by Zucker Art Books (USA); authors: Matthew Zucker, Pia Östlund; design: Haller Brun; production: robstolk®

GRID Grafisch Museum Groningen.
