About this activity.

Julia Pankras (1999) from Eenrum (NL) is a painter of horses. She paints in an expressive style in which complementary colors and with emotion.
Important in her work is the calm she communicates through painting horses; it provides her with peace while creating. It also gives the viewer a sense of calm while observing. During painting, her feelings lead the process, resulting in artwork that appears lively and with loose brushstrokes on the canvas.

The exhibition 'BoerEn Paard' (Farm Horse) is an exploration of the disappearing bond between humans and horses and their stories from the twentieth century. An almost horse-less existence, as we know it now, was unthinkable.

Not long ago, humans and horses were inseparably connected in daily life. Just like milkman Simon de Groot - one of the main stories of the exhibition - most people worked everyday, with their horse. Through the special bond they built, Simon and his horse Grote Kees complemented each other flawlessly.

Through Pankras's paintings, you travel back in time and are briefly connected with people and horses who are no longer with us. They teach you to pause for a moment and invite you to ask yourself how connected we still are to the life around us.

Kunstruimte De Smederij is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and is located at Vosholen 56 in Sappemeer.  
The opening of the exhibition takes place on June 13 at 2:00 PM.
