The three artists in Bits and Pieces each use a simple, abstracted visual language to create visually effective and attractive works.
Maartje Bos exhibits her sculptures for the first time at gallery with tsjalling. The images are very minimalistic, but at the same time your imagination immediately runs off and you can see everything in the sculptures. The contrast of the straight lines and soft shapes is partly the reason for this. The images are made of environmentally friendly acrylic resin with pigments, in an edition where each image has its own unique color. The organic shapes and often soft colors invite you to touch these attractive sculptures.
A selection of drawings from 2022 and 2023 by Mieke Fokkinga is on display. As often in her work, the subjects are everyday and related to food. She seeks poetry in the patterns of scattered fruit sprinkles and rhythms in the color layers of English licorice. With minimal means she knows how to paint convincing raisins on the paper, which demand attention in all their simplicity, and almost ask the existential question, are we alone or together?
Frank Lenferink has always drawn alongside his paintings, usually when traveling or to develop ideas. Since 2021 he also makes large-format drawings in gray pencil. These are familiar subjects such as glasses, radiators and chests of drawers, but he has also tapped into a number of new themes, such as a newspaper, a feather and a sewing machine. As with his paintings, he knows how to create curves in his drawings with angular shapes and gradual transitions and to create a convincing material expression.
