About this activity.
Sixteen artists from the Beeldende Kunstenaars Vereniging Drenthe were inspired for a year by the Drentsche Aa, a unique and protected stream valley landscape in the Netherlands. They started in January at the source and moved up a Diepje each month, so that they included not only the course of the stream, but also the course of the seasons. Some limited themselves to taking photos to work on at home, others mainly painted or drew in the field. Some were landscape and animal painters par excellence, others were concerned with structures or were inspired by light, colour, line or form. The group consisted of realists, impressionists and abstract artists.
A beautiful book has been published by Noordboek publishers and a series of postcards with a walk through the area on each card.
Parallel to this exhibition in the DSG gallery is the Beek in Beeld exhibition in Museum Nienoord in Leek, which will last until 31 August. There are also open studios, lectures and artists-in-residence.
