August Langhout, Rianne Pijper and Patricia Suer
About this activity.
Three exhibitors, each transforming their experience into beautiful art in their own unique way. August Langhout (photography), Rianne Pijper (surrealist painting), and Patricia Suer (imaginative figures and sculptures).
August Langhout: The Breath of the Earth
August Langhout is a logistics consultant for manufacturing companies, where structure and solutions take center stage. In his art, however, he seeks the freedom to create intuitively, without a fixed plan. During walks along the Wadden Sea, through forests, and in gardens, he photographs moments that move him. Inspired by Impressionism, where light and emotion are central, he digitally manipulates these images. He adds colors, textures, and gold accents until the work feels ‘finished’ to him. This creates a personal interpretation of nature: the breath of the earth. His series Tideland (2023), Whisper in the Sky (2024), Sunken Beauty (2025), and Echo of Light (2025) explore themes such as fading, memory, and the beauty of transience. These internationally recognized series are a free dialogue with nature, in which he plays with contrasts, repetition, and abstraction. His images invite us to pause and reflect on the stories hidden in the everyday and the emotions that arise where reality and memory meet.
Rianne Pijper: Passion for surreal and colorful art
Rianne was born and raised in Appingedam; a true Appingedam native. She grew up during the time when the Eendracht cardboard factory was still in full operation. Her father worked there and often brought home stacks of cardboard, which offered Rianne plenty of space as a child to enjoy drawing and painting. Over the years, painting has grown into her passion! She sketches surreal images from fantasy and sometimes from her dreams, first with pencil on paper, and then transfers the sketch onto canvas using acrylic or oil paint. In doing so, she plays with space, form, and color. The ideas Rianne develops can change during the painting process and deviate from the original sketch. In every image, Rianne tells a story—her story. She invites the viewer to search for their own experience in this regard. Looking at her work sparks your curiosity about what surprising, surreal, and spatial paintings she will create in the future.
Patricia Suer The world of art and theater
Patricia creates imaginative figures, sculptures, and props from iron and bronze. For many years, she performed (solo) theater shows in which the iron objects served as scenery and characters. Due to the growing interest in her sculptures, she began exhibiting the iron masks, animals, and various other objects—many of which were still ‘in use’. After the COVID-19 period, theater performances came to a virtual standstill, and Patricia focused on creating sculptures. On display were: in 2011, mobile theater objects at the De Buitenplaats museum in Eelde, during the exhibition ‘Het Rijk der Kneuzen’ by Olga Wiese. In the restaurant at De Burcht in Wedde, an iron chandelier with birds hangs. In Geldrop, you are surprised by five iron sheep on a roundabout. Patricia participated in a number of exhibitions at Piloersemaborg in Den Ham, the Hortus Botanicus in Haren, the ‘Winterwelvaart Groningen’ art route, and she exhibited at the ‘Spotted Horse’ Art Gallery in Laren. Furthermore, she exhibits and sells garden artworks every year during the summer season in the lush gardens of Tuingoed Foltzte in Meeden. On YouTube, you can watch the fascinating documentary ’Theater Suer’, which was made about her work by filmmakers Buddy Hermans and Lejo Siepe.
