Summer exhibition with Laura de Josselin de Jong in Atelier Henk Kraayenzank

From 21 May, Henk Kraayenzank will present his recent work in his studio for a summer in combination with a special series of paintings by Laura de Josselin de Jong.

Laura de Josselin de Jong graduated from Academie Minerva as a theater designer in 1980, after which she moved to Amsterdam. There she makes a career as a set and costume designer for countless theater productions.

Since November 2019 she starts the day with a walk of about 20 kilometers. Wherever she is: in the Netherlands, Spain, New York, Paris. After the lockdown in March 2020, she combed Amsterdam and the surrounding area; after all, there is not much else possible.

She leaves early in the morning, preferably at sunrise and when she comes home she tries to put the beautiful morning light on canvas.

Every time a painting is finished, she has calculated the mileage and written it on the back. The counter is currently at 4549 kilometers!

In 2013, her work was shown for the first time in Groningen. Then she said about it: “I paint everything that is dear to me in life; my niece Cecilia, who dresses up in traditional costume especially for me, Hanneke in Turkey, the sun on our table in the early morning, the soft light through the trees of Bhutan".

That approach has not fundamentally changed: the work is an ode to colour, light and shadow.

Atelier Kraayenzank.

Atelier Kraayenzank is het atelier van kunstenaar Henk Kraayenzank aan de Visserstraat in Groningen. Regelmatig ontvangt Kraayenzank gasten in de serie duotentoonstellingen.
