Exhibition 'Contrasts'
About this activity.
Beeldend Collectief Drenthe (BCD) is a group of artists who primarily live and work in the southwest of the Drenthe province.
In 2027, the BCD will mark its 20th anniversary, an occasion that will be celebrated with a variety of activities—including a jubilee exhibition at the Reestkamer in Oud-Avereest, which will run throughout the summer. Sixteen BCD artists have explored the theme of 'Contrasts,' and their work is now on display at Forma Aktua. Dark versus light, transparent versus opaque, cold versus warm, clear versus hazy, soft versus hard, open versus closed—the exhibition explores contrasts in materials, form, and color.
Contrasts are essential for giving meaning to concepts. They not only define a concept but also shape the very essence of a thing, an experience, or a perception. Without contrast, our existence would be devoid of meaning. Can life even exist without contrasts?
Three featured exhibitors:
Janneke Hogerheide
In her work, contrasts are expressed through the interplay of threads and forms.
One of her pieces features dark threads set against a light background, punctuated by a strikingly small red rectangle filled with a dense network of lines. For the artist, these searching red threads represent the idea that "you cannot know everything." Janneke’s work exists at the intersection of textiles and painting.
It incorporates imperfect lines created with thread on various types of fabric—a study in contradictions and imperfection.
Steven Kost
Inspired by the theme of 'Contrasts,' Steven has created a series of works painted spontaneously, driven by color and contrast. Examples of this approach can be seen in his paintings 'The Drenthe Dream' (*De Drentse Droom*) and 'Drenthe Paradise' (*Drents Paradijs*). His surroundings (Meppel) inspire him to depict the reality of the Drenthe region in his own unique and colorful way.
Marcelle van der Leeuw
A contrast between light and dark is clearly visible in the painting ‘Transition’ by Marcelle van der Leeuw. This contrast represents the movement from one phase of life to another—a phase that is, as yet, a blank slate. It involves delving into and searching for what lies beneath people’s outward appearance. Does one’s exterior reflect one’s inner self, or is it the other way around?
In addition, Marcelle creates furniture and wooden art—including jewelry—that highlights the natural lines and grain of the wood.
You are warmly invited to this wonderful exhibition!
