Walter's Showcase: Hanneke Woudenberg

Hi! I’m Hanneke Woudenberg, an astronomer who loves to draw :) I have lived in Groningen for the past 10 years, but I have been drawing ever since I was a child. I work with pencil, crowquill pen and brush, using Indian ink (sometimes diluted), Ecoline and watercolours (sometimes metallic or iridescent, they’re so cool!). I have a soft spot for analogue photography too.

I find it exciting to see an idea take shape on paper, and I value the process as much as the result. For example, the crowquill pen, which I used for the largest works in this showcase, requires you to slow down and, since the ink is  permanent, to choose every stroke with care. My work is usually inspired by friends, by nature or by things that I am passionate about, and often by a combination of these. I work with attention to detail and use it to make pieces whose true nature might only reveal itself when you look closer.
