Roland Carter is a visual artist based in Groningen. Since 2010, he has developed a painting practice in which color, movement, spirituality, and personal experiences come together.

His colorful, figurative paintings combine organic forms, geometric patterns, and bold fields of color. His work is often rooted in a personal story, inspired by memories, encounters, love, family, travel, and his connection to the Caribbean.

Carter works intuitively, starting from a thought, event, or story. By building up layers, shapes, colors, and details, he creates paintings that do not reveal themselves at first glance. His aim is to create work that invites you to keep looking, continually discovering new details and connections.

From his studio in Groningen, Carter works on individual pieces as well as series. His paintings are held in private collections in cities and places including Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Aruba, and Boston.
