De Kunsthof presents a joint exhibition by

Jan Snijder (Surhuisterveen, 1960)

Jan’s works draw on the universal values of the landscape. Jan finds his inspiration primarily in the quiet, rural areas of Friesland; often on the Wadden Islands, but also in the vicinity of his studio. His aim is not to depict a landscape; Jan prefers to rely on the imagination. He immerses himself in the interplay of light, sound and atmosphere on location, but the subsequent interpretation is detached from any specific time or place. He stores up impressions or captures them in loose sketches, which are then developed in the studio into paintings characterised by the tension between the material and the mysterious. The poetry of his painting lies in the way his inner landscapes give expression to deeper emotions.

Jan Snijder is self-taught. He lives and works in Drachten. His work is included in the collections of Museum Belvédère and Museum Dr8888.

Sabine Liedtke (Drachten, 1971)

Sabine creates drawings on various sizes and types of paper, sometimes combining these with materials such as paint or photography. She also creates ceramics. She focuses on details from nature. For her, isolating the subject from its surroundings or repeating forms is a way of looking more closely. She carefully selects figurative and abstract forms as her visual language. Her drawings are constructed through the repetitive drawing of lines or dots. Depicting reality is a means to an end, but ultimately it is about the feeling the work evokes.

Sabine Liedtke graduated from the Minerva Academy in Groningen. She lives and works in Drachten. Her work is included in the collection of the Belvédère Museum.
