Graphic artist, printer and painter Aldrik Salverda and sculptor Lucas Klein show in their overview exhibition how humans, nature, past, and future are interconnected.
Open for visits Thursday through Sunday, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
Both artists will be present on July 26 from 1:30 PM.
Aldrik Salverda was trained at Academie Minerva and is a familiar name within the Northern Netherlands art world. Besides his own artistic practice, he has worked for years as a printer and teacher at the Graphic Center in Groningen. In his paintings, drawings and graphics, imagination, a great love for the landscape, and craftsmanship come together. Inspired by the environment, travels, and traces from the past, Aldrik creates images reminiscent of maps, landscapes, and archaeological finds. In these works, you can discover his fascination with line, structure, and layering, which he demonstrates across various disciplines.
The sculptures of Lucas Klein are made from natural materials such as stone, wood, copper, or bronze. Connection forms a common thread in his work. By combining different materials, he creates sculptures that exude both strength and harmony. Although his sculptures are abstract in form, they often contain recognizable, almost figurative elements. They breathe a mysterious atmosphere and evoke associations with megalithic cultures and the symbolic imagery of religions from various times and places.
A recurring motif in Lucas' work is the boat shape. This refers to ancient Egyptian cultures, but also symbolizes a crossing: a journey, a movement, and the connection between here and there.
The exhibition concludes with a finissage on Saturday, August 15 at 1:30 PM. With Erica van Lente, mayor of Midden-Groningen, and music by Joyce Onderstal (keyboard) and Anne Fie Salverda (clarinet).
