About this activity.

Color Weaves Space, Ink Transcends Boundaries

Shanghai (25 million inhabitants) presents itself in Groningen (250,000 inhabitants) with this exhibition of 21 artists.

This exhibition provides an overview of contemporary art in Shanghai and serves simultaneously as an introduction to the historical development of European influences on Chinese art. The premiere takes place in Groningen; subsequently, the exhibition will be on display in multiple locations across Europe in the coming year, starting with Rotterdam (Shanghai's sister city). Simultaneously, a presentation by Dutch artists will take place in Shanghai.

This exhibition takes 'Color Weaves Space, Ink Transcends Boundaries' as its core concept. It focuses on the profound dialogue between Eastern ink art and Western oil painting, rooted in the contemporary practices of Chinese artists, and explores the legacy and breakthrough of traditional culture in a modern context.

The exhibition juxtaposes the spatial construction and formal language of Western oil painting with the unique temporal-spatial imagination and aesthetic conception of Eastern ink art. It showcases the legacy of both Chinese painting and oil painting traditions, as well as the diverse explorations of contemporary artists in new media and philosophical reflections between Eastern and Western thought.

Lin Fengmian (1900–1991) is a pioneer in the integration of Chinese and Western art. From Lin Fengmian's From groundbreaking integration of color, ink, East and West, to the continuous innovation of media, language, and ideas by contemporary makers, the works are rooted in Chinese cultural heritage and break boundaries with an international vision.

‘Color weaves space, ink transcends boundaries’

Color weaves through visual space; ink transcends imaginary time and boundaries. This exhibition, presented in the Netherlands, uses art as a bridge to showcase the contemporary transformation and renewal of traditional Chinese aesthetics, injecting lasting and profound power into cultural exchanges between China and the West.
